Deadline extended by a few hours.
by hell to ships, hell to men, and hell to cities. (prozacpark)
at May 4th, 2014 (12:24 pm)

Just a reminder that all stories are due tonight.  The initial deadline was midnight tonight, but I'll be up till about 4 am (CST), and will close the archive at that time.   SO you'll have a few extra hours to write, if you need them.

If you emailed us in the last few days and haven't heard back from us, we will get back to you tonight before the deadline.  At least one of your mods is also hiding under a rock, trying to finish the story on time.  But all will be resolved tonight.  :)

ETA:  If your story is uploaded as a draft, we will not be approving it.  So make sure it's the final version (and doesn't say draft next to it), please.  :)

Any leads on where we might find a pinch hit writer for this author would be appreciated!

Pinch Hits and Deadlines
by i'm a modern girl (aphrodite_mine)
at April 27th, 2014 (07:53 pm)

A batch of pinch hits have been sent out, still with the deadline of May 4. (I'll post here if we have any that linger past 24 hours without being claimed.)

The deadline for defaulting without penalty has passed (April 25).

We're still waiting on a lot of fics, so get writing! Get betaing! Turn those puppies in!

Checking in...

at April 3rd, 2014 (07:34 pm)

Hi everybody! A few pinch hits are coming out shortly, so start watching your inboxes.

Thought I'd take this time to offer a few reminders as we start nearing the deadlines!

1) Treats!

As prozacpark posted, here is a list of every request for this year. There's also a wonderful spreadsheet of letters if you want to shop around. Treats can be any length, so if you find yourself with inspiration or time to spare, get writing!

2) Reviewing the revised deadlines

Just to reiterate:
April 25: Last date to drop without penalty; drops after this date subject to potential banning in 2015
May 4: Stories due to AO3
May 10 (or early May, depending on any pinch hit issues): Stories and authors revealed; authors may share their (and others') work via link
May 17 (or a week after the archive opens): Stories may be cross-posted to other places.

All right! See you in the pinches!

Post assignements concerns: Treating, letters, and questions.

Treats: You can now view all requests that were made for the challenge here (you can even filter them by fandom!).  You can also access a spreadsheet with all the letters and their requested fandoms here (thanks to somehowunbroken, who put the spreadsheet together again this year) for all your treating needs.

As with last year, treating is not only welcomed, but desperately encouraged. The main goal of this ficathon was always to generate more fanfic about overlooked female characters, and treats certainly help with that. We're leaving all requests visible, so you are free to write as many fics of any length as you like. You do not have to be an official participant in order to write treats, so feel free to link the spreadsheet and requests around, if you think other people might be interested in writing you (or others) treats. [Here's a tumblr post you can reblog for that purpose.]  Stories will be revealed on May 10th, so all treats should be uploaded by then.

Letters: If your writer hasn't yet updated their placeholder or there are other concerns about letters, please, drop me a message through an LJ PM, and I will try my best to get in touch with them.  Likewise, if you have additional questions for your recipients, I can also ask those.

Please, also remember that letters are recommended, but not required, so your recipient may very well never put one up. In that case, assume that they don't have any strong squicks or dislikes that they wish for you to avoid rather than assuming that they'll hate it. Write a story that will cause you the least amount of stress. :)

Signal boost! Gauging interest for a female-centric Remix

So there are remix challenges happening, which is always exciting, because I love remix!

But remix often comes with issues of not having the ability to specify that you aren't a big fan of slash or mostly write women. While that can sometimes be part of the fun, it's also really frustrating when you've got a bunch of awesome stories about women and one not-as-awesome story about men and that one not-as-awesome story is the one that gets remixed because your author doesn't write women.
So are you into stories about women? Have you written stories about women? Would you like to read and write more of them? Would you like to read and write stories based on other people's stories? Yes? Motherfucking yes? Well then, I want to hear about it!
In short, tielan and theladyscribe are trying to gauge possible interest in a female-centric remix.

The interest-gauging post is here.

Assignments are out!
by hell to ships, hell to men, and hell to cities. (prozacpark)
at March 9th, 2014 (05:02 pm)

Okay, matching is all done, and assignments have gone out. There should be four assignments going out to the pinch hit list soon, so if you’re signed up for that, keep an eye out for them.

Only about five people had to be double assigned a recipient (which was done using a random number generator, like last year.) All in all, the matching was much easier (if incredibly slow) than predicted given the sign-up summary results.

As requested, our deadlines have all been moved by a week to reflect the time lost in AO3 matching issues. Your assignment letter should reflect the new due date for the stories.

Remember to link your letters to this post, if you’re planning on posting one.

Here are the new deadlines:

April 25: Last date to drop without penalty; drops after this date subject to potential banning in 2015
May 4: Stories due to AO3
May 10 (or early May, depending on any pinch hit issues): Stories and authors revealed; authors may share their (and others') work via link
May 17 (or a week after the archive opens): Stories may be cross-posted to other places.

update.

Matching is still running. We have gotten in touch with AO3, and they're working with us to try and resolve the issue.  I will be editing this post with updates instead of spamming the community, so just keep checking here.

ETA:  Okay, matching is done, except for a few people we have to manually match.  I’m working on it now so the assignments (with the new deadline) should be out soon.  I’ll make a proper update to the community once that’s done.

update. not the one you guys wanted, but an update.

Just a quick update since I know that most of you are expecting your assignments soonish.  We're mostly just waiting for AO3 to finish auto-matching, which is taking very, very long.

We have heard back from everyone with additional offers, but unfortunately, AO3 seemed to be experiencing some downtime the last couple of days. I was up most of last night waiting for it to come back up so I could modify the sign-ups and start the matching before going to bed.  I set the system to generate matches right around 5am, and was really hoping that it would be done by the time I got back home, if not by the time I got up.   I am not sure why it's taking so long.

Once all the possible matches have been generated, the mods will still have to play around with the results a bit to make sure that the maxium number of people have matches, assign recipients to those without one, and determine what needs to be sent out for pinches, etc.

Thank you for all of your patience, and just keep your fingers crossed that the matching finishes soon.
