Just wanted to be totally clear on how you folks are running the matching -

If I OFFER
Fandom X
*Character A
*Character B
*Character C

And another person REQUESTS
Fandom X
*Character C
*Character D
*Character E

We could match? And in that case, I am only obligated to write Character C?

Thanks! :)

Yes, that's correct. You're only responsible for writing the characters you offered. :)

I just wanted to clear something up about eligibility. I haven't participated before. The post says: if a woman character generates FEWER than 500 hits on AO3/200 hits on fanfiction.net for complete fic on a single website (and does not generate greater than 500/200 of hits on another site) then they are eligible for nomination.

1) Are the #s backwards - is this supposed to be 200 AO3/500 FFN?

2) Is the slash "and" or "or"? Does a character have to be under on both sites or just one?

1). No, those numbers are correct. Since AO3 tagging system favors tagging every single character who appears in the story (as opposed to the FFN system of tagging only the primary characters), characters can have large numbers of stories that they're actually not a primary focus or even an important part of.

2). The character is eligible by either standards, unless the numbers on the other site are way out of range. So if Character A has 400 fics on Ao3, but 500 on FFN, then that character will not be eligible. When the numbers are close to the specified ranges, we'll vote in favor of including the character.

How many characters can we nominate per fandom?
Other Fandom YB

Please forgive me if I'm just overlooking this item in the rules or FAQ, but how many characters can we nominate per fandom? I see that we can request 1-10 and offer 1-20, and I see some posts on the discussion thread assuming that we can nominate 1-5, as in previous years, but I'd like to be positive.

Thank you very much!

You chill be able to nominate up to five women in five different fandoms.

Are there banners for advertising?

Sorry, I know this is not the way to ask but I have tried to find prozacpark's LJ without success, hence this comment.

I have nominated some fandoms and characters and then a few minutes later changed my mind about a character. I tried to edit but AO3 wouldn't let me. I've tried more than once but it keeps flashing a message:
Sorry! We couldn't save this TagSetNomination because:
•Owned tag set You have already submitted nominations for that tag set. Try editing them instead.

Given I have been clicking the edit button it has been a tad frustrating.

Could you please ask prozacpark to respond with some nice ideot-proof instructions about how to edit a character selection?

Thanks

FA Watson

Daria

If I find a nom that has an error in it, is this the right place to note it?

Elementary has Joan Watson
Sherlock has Mary Watson

But Mary was named in the Elementary nom - it's likely to confuse writers; it certainly did me.

I'm not a mod, but that's not an error - Mary Watson is the mother of Joan Watson in Elementary. The tag is specifically named for Elementary, too.

Oops (Jack)

As much as I watch that show, that escaped me - thanks! (of course, I was watching Sherlock this week as well - that may have colored my memory ;>)

Aurora (Once Upon a Time) is coming up as ineligible on the nomination form. I get 255 works >1000 words on AO3, and 207 on FF.net. AO3 is way under the cutoff, and FF.net just barely over, but so borderline I feel she should probably still be eligible? (If necessary, I could probably go through and pull out seven fics that aren't actually about her, but I'd rather not unless I have to.)

hannibal › look again

Hi! The profile information for the parent collection Rarewomen still has the dates and discontinued fandom restrictions from 2012, so the 2014 subcollection has those in the profile as well.

Sign Up Summary not updating

I know you don't have much control over it, but the sign up summary is not updating.

Re: Sign Up Summary not updating

It's working again now. Last updated: Tue 25 Feb 2014 07:39PM CST, which was less than an hour ago, so hopefully it is updating on the hour again :)

I'm going through the nominated characters and I've noticed at least two characters on there who don't belong: Xavin (under Runaways (Comics))), and Inukashi (under No. 6 - All Media Types). Neither of these characters have self-identified as women; they are frequently gendered as such by fandom, but in their respective canons they refuse to self-identify with a binary gender, and as the rules state, If the character actively refuses to self-identify with a gender, we will not arbitrarily assign them one. That character is ineligible.

Is it possible at this point to make these characters ineligible? As a non-binary person, it's honestly pretty upsetting to see two examples of the closest thing I have to non-binary representation gendered as women for a challenge.

My apologies for not seeing that Xavin had been discussed already - I'm usually more thorough in checking out previous discussion than that! Thank you for your reply.

It's an open question how needy those fandoms are. According to the Summary Challenge Signup:

Last generated at: Fri 21 Feb 2014 03:37AM CST (Generated hourly on request while sign-ups are open.)

It's now Sunday, 23 Feb. 2014, 04:31PM EST.

I know! I just got the message from AO3 tonight. Here's what they said:

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting us. I’m afraid that the Rarewomen challenge ran into a lurking problem in our signup summary code. We’ve just deployed a fix, and the Rarewomen summary has regenerated.

We’re sorry for the difficulties!

Best,
Lady Oscar

Wow, that's excellent! I am not very active on AO3, and am not used to this type of bug being dealt with so promptly. Perhaps I should spend more of my internet time there in the future.

For those who've been waiting:

I have had a note back from AO3 Tech Support, the signup summary has regenerated, and I'm told that it should continue to do so going forward.

May 10 (or early May, depending on any pinch hit issues):

I have a question about this. Does this mean that stories might be revealed before May 10th or before? My story's basically finished, but it's the middle of finals so I was (oops) counting on that five day gap for things like editing and tweaking. So yeah I just want to make sure it still means stories will be revealed on the 10th and not ever before.
